July 7, 2011 Richard C. "Dick" Brown, 84, of Otisco,
went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 7, at Cortland Care Center.
He was a carpenter for Dawson Bros. and John Dougherty Construction
companies and retired from Syracuse Supply in Engineered Products,
Robotics and Conveyor Systems. Dick was a Navy veteran of WWII, having
served in the South Pacific. Following his retirement, he attended
Wesley Seminary in Washington, DC, and was pastor of Vesper United
Methodist Church for over 13 years. He was a charter member of the
Otisco Fire Dept. and a former member of NYS Divers Assoc. He was a
member of the Onondaga County Underwater Recovery Team and especially
enjoyed sport diving. He was a 10-gallon blood donor for the Red Cross.
Dick was predeceased by his infant son, Norman W. Brown. Surviving are
his wife of 63 years, Marion Walburger Brown; his children, Richard E.
Brown of Old Bridge, NJ, Juanita (TImothy) Knolls of Dryden, and Joel
(Cindy) Brown of Cortland; his brother, Forrest (Lois) Brown of New
Philadelphia, Ohio; his sister, Marilyn Vecchio of Chittenango; his
grandchildren, Richard and Heather Brown of Millstone, NJ, Aaron and
Rebekah Knolls of Dryden, Peter (Breanne) Brown of Freeville, and Derek
(Ashley) Brown of Cortland; two great-granddaughters, Kristen and Alina
Brown; and several nieces and nephews. Services: 2 p.m. Sunday at
Hartwell Funeral Home, Route 281, Tully. Interment: Vesper Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from noon until the time
of service. Contributions may be made to Vesper Cemetery Assoc.; Otisco
or Tully fire departments; or Christ Chapel in Vesper. Hartwell Funeral
